Expeditions, curated

The north,
without compromise.

Somewhere past Chilas the Karakoram opens like a held breath, and every hour of the road is repaid at once. We take you there in luxury 4x4s, with drivers who read these mountains fluently, so the wildest country on earth feels effortless.

Why we go

Some landscapes change the people who see them.

There is a morning that belongs to everyone who has travelled north: waking in Hunza to sunrise touching Rakaposhi, the valley still blue below, apricot orchards holding their breath. Or rounding the bend where Attabad Lake first shows its impossible turquoise. Or standing on Deosai in July, knee-deep in wildflowers on the roof of the world.

These places do not need embellishment. What they need is a way to be reached, safely, comfortably, and with enough ease that the journey adds to the wonder instead of taxing it. The winding roads, the changing weather, the long distances: handled well, they become part of the story. Handled poorly, they become the story.

Mandil's northern tours exist so that the mountains get to do the talking. A luxury 4x4, a driver who has crossed these passes a hundred times, an itinerary shaped around you, and Pakistan's most extraordinary country, unrolling outside your window.

Why a curated tour

The destination deserves more than an ordinary trip.

01

Comfort at altitude

Ten-hour mountain days are transformed by the right vehicle, suspension, space and climate that keep wonder ahead of weariness.

02

Safety in serious terrain

The KKH rewards respect. Experienced drivers, capable 4x4s and conservative judgement are not luxuries here, they are the foundation.

03

Local expertise, everywhere

Which pass opens when, where the best trout is served, which viewpoint the buses miss, knowledge that turns a route into an experience.

04

Itineraries, carefully built

Distances that respect daylight, acclimatisation and attention spans, ambitious enough to thrill, humane enough to enjoy.

05

Personal, not packaged

Private vehicles and custom plans, your pace, your interests, your photographs. No flag-following, ever.

06

Memories worth the name

Done right, a northern tour becomes the trip a family measures other trips against. That is the standard we pack for.

Destinations we cover

Three regions. Endless north.

Our tours range across the whole of Pakistan's high country: Gilgit-Baltistan, Hunza, Skardu, Fairy Meadows, Deosai and the Karakoram Highway itself; Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Naran, Kaghan, Swat, Chitral and the Galiyat; and Azad Kashmir, the Neelum Valley and beyond. Every tour is private and personalised; nothing is packaged, and nothing is shared with strangers.

Tours begin at your door in Islamabad or Rawalpindi, or straight from the airport with an arrival pickup, so international travellers can land and head north the same morning.

Questions, answered

Before you head north.

When is the best time to visit the north?

May to October for most valleys; July–August opens Deosai and Babusar; October paints Hunza gold; winter suits Murree, Swat and snow-seekers. Tell us your month, we'll match the valleys that will be at their best.

How long should a tour be?

Murree and Galiyat suit 2–3 days, Naran 3–4, Hunza deserves 5–7, and a Hunza–Skardu grand circuit shines at 8–12. We design to your leave calendar, honestly, including what to skip if time is short.

Is accommodation included?

We arrange and reserve accommodation as part of tour planning, from boutique lodges to the best hotels in each valley, billed transparently at cost or bundled, as you prefer.

What about meals?

Meals stay flexible, your driver knows the best kitchens on every route, from trout by the Kunhar to apricot cake in Karimabad. Recommendations are part of the service; the choices stay yours.

Are the roads safe?

The main northern arteries are well-built and heavily travelled; the variables are weather and driver judgement. We control both, experienced mountain drivers, daylight driving on passes, and routes adjusted to real-time conditions.

What if the weather turns?

Itineraries carry built-in flexibility, and our base team tracks conditions daily. If a pass closes, the plan bends, an extra valley day here, an alternate route there, without losing the heart of your trip.

Is the north suitable for children and elders?

Very much so, with the right pacing, shorter driving days, comfortable stops and valleys chosen for gentler altitude. Tell us the ages; the itinerary adapts.

Can you build a photography-focused tour?

A speciality, dawn starts, golden-hour positioning and drivers who treat a tripod stop as part of the job, not a delay.

What should we pack?

Layers above all, mountain days swing from t-shirt warm to jacket cold. Sunscreen, sturdy shoes, power banks and any medications. You'll receive a season-specific packing list with your itinerary.

Which vehicles do you use?

Land Cruiser, Prado, Tank 500 and Fortuner, genuine 4x4s with the comfort for long days. Local jeeps are arranged where tracks demand them, as at Fairy Meadows.

Can we customise the itinerary completely?

That's the default. Every tour is private and built from scratch, add valleys, linger longer, skip what doesn't call to you.

What group sizes can you handle?

From a couple in one Prado to multi-vehicle family convoys and corporate retreats, coordinated as one journey with one point of contact.

How does pricing work?

A clear quote covering vehicle, driver, fuel and planning for your exact itinerary, fixed before departure. Accommodation is itemised transparently alongside.

How do we pay?

A booking deposit secures dates and vehicles; the balance by cash, transfer or card as agreed. Corporate retreats can run on account invoicing.

What is the cancellation policy?

Flexible with notice, and stated plainly at booking. Weather-forced changes are never treated as cancellations, we reroute or rebook with you.

Is travel insurance needed?

We recommend it for any mountain travel, particularly for international visitors. Your itinerary documentation supports insurance requirements where needed.

What support exists during the tour?

Your driver on the ground and a 24/7 base team behind them, monitoring weather, adjusting bookings and reachable at every hour of every tour day.

Do international tourists need permits?

Most classic destinations, Hunza, Skardu, Naran, Swat, need no special permits for foreign visitors. Where registrations apply on certain routes, we handle the paperwork in advance.

Can the tour start straight from the airport?

Yes, land at Islamabad International, be met at arrivals and head north the same morning. See airport transfers for how the handoff works.

Why Mandil instead of a tour operator?

Because we're a transportation company first: the vehicles are ours, the drivers are ours, and the standard is the one behind our executive and corporate services, applied to the most beautiful roads in the country. Private, flexible and accountable end-to-end.

Continue exploring

One standard, every journey.

The mountains are patient

But why keep
them waiting?

One conversation starts the itinerary. Tell us your dates and your daydream, we'll bring the vehicle, the driver and the north.
